How long does it take to get started?
Once you complete our Online Application, you can immediately start your online Master Travel Agent Course. The MTA course consists of 10 online training modules and each one is followed by a quiz to ensure you understand the most important training material to start of your travel career. You can complete your initial trainings under 6 hours and the courses can be taken at your convenience. After you complete the master travel certification we will immediately start getting you signed up with the travel vendors so you can start booking travel. The ongoing and supplemental travel training is available to you through your back-office website, as well live webinar and live trainings and Travelution University to continue to support your travel education and career.
When you make travel bookings for yourself or your clients, our travel suppliers will pay a commission on the travel sale amount. The exact commission percentage can vary between 3% and 20%, with the average being around 14%. Whatever commission we receive, we pay you 80% of that amount. Travelution agents have access to top tier commissions, training and support, tools and technology and partnerships many host agencies do not offer. Many of our travel suppliers will price match and you will have access to rates that are not available to the public. Travelution also offers you your own website, custom portals and booking engines to support your business and make you ultra- competitive.

A FAM (familiarization) trip is usually sponsored by a particular supplier for the purpose of agent training. A FAM trip allows you to tour popular resorts and visit destinations at some of the lowest prices available. These trips often help our agents increase their sales because after they have visited a particular resort or destination, they are able to share their firsthand experience with their clients. Because of Travelution’s strong relationships with our Preferred Suppliers, we offer frequent FAM opportunities to our agents.

As a travel agent with Travelution, you will have access to information that is not available to the general public. If you are flexible on your dates and destinations, you can travel at very affordable rates. These types of savings are generally associated with FAM trips and are made available to agents for the purpose of training. Agents can also earn reduced or travel agent rates by participating in specialized supplier trainings, webinar trainings, live events and booking travel. Travelution has had many suppliers offer our agents special incentives which include significant discounts and even free nights at their resorts simply by booking travel for them. While discounted travel is one of the many perks of being a travel agent, Travelution does not permit individuals to participate in our program solely for the purpose of obtaining discounts on personal travel.
We DO NOT issue a “travel agent” ID card because these cards are not recognized by travel suppliers. Instead, we work closely with each agent to help them obtain their IATAN and CLIA ID cards. These are the ONLY truly recognized ID cards in the industry. Keep in mind that an ID card is not necessary to sell travel as a travel agent.
We follow the IATAN guidelines for issuing the ID cards. IATAN requires that you be “IATAN Listed” for a minimum of six months. To get listed, we require that you have earned at least one commission check from Travelution. The second requirement is that you are on track to earn a minimum of $5,000 in gross commissions in the previous twelve (12) months. Since our agents earn some of the highest commissions in the industry, they are able to earn their IATAN card much faster.
Travelution is a Diamond Member of Clia. The Diamond Clia membership distinction is limited to only 29 only agencies. There are many benefits you receive as an agent with a Diamond Clia agency affiliation. You receive half off of your annual clia membership fees as well as 6 Free exclusive Clia Cruise Trainings with a $219 value or $35 for each online course. You receive special webinars from Clia leadership and invitations to exclusive Clia Events. We will walk you through the Clia member registration process.
While you can sell airline tickets as a travel agent, we don’t encourage you to focus all of your business on selling air. In May of 2002, the airline industry stopped paying commissions to travel agents. Most companies now charge a small service fee on all airline tickets. You are able to add a service fee of $25, $50, $100 or whatever the market will bear to the price of your client’s ticket. This applies to both domestic and international air travel.
Once you have passed our master travel agent online courses, you will immediately have access to our supplier lists with detailed instruction to help you get signed up. We will also be there to set up or approve the travel supplier accounts which require our assistance. Unlike other companies, we encourage you to establish relationships with these travel suppliers with online webinars and Travelution University where you will meet them in person. Once you are registered you will have access to the suppliers’ travel agent-only websites where you can research prices, specials and promotions. Many of these suppliers allow you to book your clients’ travel directly through their websites.
Travelution University is a quarterly event to really fast-track your travel business and take it to the next level. Our Travel University always has a jam-packed line-up of exclusive travel trainings from the top professionals in the industry. Grow your confidence and know how with courses on booking cruises, all-inclusive resorts, groups, non-profits, hotels and more. You will get the opportunity to meet the top suppliers in the industry who most impact your business . You get to know your bdms who will be presenting their products lines and giving you advice. We host a speed networking with the top travel suppliers from around the world. Pack your bags full of travel literature, brochures, marketing materials and business cards from the travel suppliers at the trade show. Travelution University gives you the opportunity to enjoy socializing with key players who influence your business. You will come out of Travel U- completely ready to hit the road running as a true travel professional.
Ever want to book large group trip and tap into those large travel commissions but felt intimidated to do it alone? Now you don’t have to. The travel “apprentice program” is a “earn as you learn” instruction where you are booking a group cruise with all the support, mentorship and instruction of a top travel agent and team of your Travelution peers. Everyone knows their role and you are coached through the booking process until everyone has accomplished their tasks of filling their cabins which you are actually paid on! You may even earn a FREE SAILING! This once in a lifetime mentorship approach to group cruising will leave you empowered and possibly ready to become a group mentor yourself with additional commissions and bonuses available to you as a trained travel mentor. The apprentice program makes booking cruises fun and easy. Apprentice mentoring is the absolute fastest way to group cruise success with a focused program- and surrounded by a group that cares about your success.
What good is success if you can’t give back and make a difference in the world? Travelution’s “Cruising for a Cause” is Travelution’s way to give back to causes that are dear to our hearts. We all have lost a loved one to cancer or heart disease or alzheimers disease or ALS. Travelution is excited to have the opportunity to donate dollars from every cabin booked on a sponsored Cruising For a Cause sailings with the active cooperation and support of the major cruise lines who will also do their part to give back as well. Together we can make a difference whether it is cancer research, providing food to the homeless, trying to eliminate childhood illnesses, supporting disabled veterans, saving the planet and supporting animal rescue groups in dire need of support. You can feel good about filling cabins knowing that causes near and dear to your heart will be supported. We will teach and train you how to contact those organizations and groups who will gladly announce your Cruising For a Cause Sailings to their databases we are supporting with the cruise. Cruising for a Cause is a win, win, win for everyone. You can sleep soundly with a smile on your face knowing that big group commission you just earned is backed with Giving Back.
As a Travelution Travel Group Agent (see my note above), the membership fee covers all training, tools, and technology that we provide to help start and run your travel agency. Travelution is constantly providing Agents with updated technology and new Agent support resources that have been proved to be beneficial towards building a solid business. As with owning and running any business, you need to invest time, effort and money in order to create a solid foundation. Travelution’s goal is to provide agents timely payment of all travel commissions. We receive commissions from all our suppliers daily, throughout the month. If you have earned commissions that month, we pay you on the second and fourth Friday of each month. [Please note: Generally, our suppliers pay us when the customer completes their travel.]
Travelution recognizes that the majority of individuals joining Travelution have little, and in some cases, no experience in the travel industry. For that reason, all of our systems, processes, procedures, training and support have been designed with that in mind. We begin your training by familiarizing you with our internal systems. We want you to be comfortable completing a booking within your first few hours. The training, which is web-based, continues at your own pace. At any time, our dedicated team is standing by to assist you with any questions. Finally, all online training is included in our system at no additional charge.
Travelution does not require any previous formal education qualifications to enroll. We do require brand new Agents to complete our custom designed Master Travel Agent Program. Independent Agents are encouraged to complete additional supplemental and ongoing travel training provided and to attend Live Travelution Universities to kick start their familiarity and understanding of the business. The MTA (explain what it is here in brackets) online program consists of watching a series of online training videos, completing training videos (See my note above for this sentence). Training courses are available 24/7 through our Video Library. In addition, we also provide a Video Learning Library that will allow access to some of the best training the industry has to offer. Travelution Independent Travel Agents are encouraged to continue their education through the programs offered by Clia, Lata and our travel suppliers.
